SURAKARTA – The Public Health Study Program, Faculty of Health Sciences (FIK), Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), organized an Internship and PBL-2 (Community-Based Learning) Pre-Departure Training to prepare students before entering their field placements. One of the key sessions focused on professional ethics, effective communication, and developing learning plans for internships and PBL-2.
The session was delivered by Public Health UMS lecturers who also serve as the Internship and PBL-2 Coordinators. Through this training, students gained practical guidance on professional conduct, communication strategies, and academic preparation to help them maximize their learning experience in partner institutions and communities.
The first topic discussed the Do’s and Don’ts during internships, emphasizing the importance of discipline, professionalism, adaptability, and maintaining a positive attitude in the workplace. Students were also reminded to comply with institutional regulations, uphold professional ethics, and represent Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta with integrity throughout their field activities.
The training also highlighted the importance of effective communication in professional settings. Students learned strategies for building productive relationships with supervisors, colleagues, and community members through clear, respectful, and solution-oriented communication. These interpersonal skills are expected to support collaboration and foster a positive working environment during internships and PBL-2.
Another essential component of the session was the development of a Learning Plan for internships and PBL-2. Students were guided to formulate structured learning objectives, identify competencies to be achieved, and design activity plans aligned with both academic outcomes and the needs of their placement institutions. A well-prepared learning plan serves as a roadmap for meaningful and measurable learning throughout the program.
Through this pre-departure training, the Public Health Study Program UMS reaffirmed its commitment to producing competent, adaptive, and professional public health graduates who are well-prepared to contribute to communities and health institutions through quality field-based learning experiences.
