UMS Public Health Lecturer Develops Web GIS Innovation to Strengthen Tuberculosis Control in Sukoharjo

SURAKARTA – Tuberculosis (TB) control efforts require an approach that is not only based on health services but also supported by the use of technology capable of producing accurate data for decision-making. To address this need, Dr. Noor Alis Setiyadi, S.KM., M.K.M., Ph.D., a lecturer in the Public Health (Kesmas) Study Program at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta (UMS), developed a Web Geographic Information System (Web GIS)-based innovation as a strategic step to support TB control in Sukoharjo Regency.

This Web GIS innovation enables more systematic mapping of TB cases, thus facilitating faster and more targeted tracking, analysis, and intervention determination. Through the use of information technology, health data can be processed into information that supports policy formulation and action in the field.

The development of this Web GIS demonstrates the transformation of data into concrete action in TB control efforts. The digital mapping system is expected to help various parties understand the distribution of cases, identify priority areas, and strengthen coordination between stakeholders.

This innovation also aligns with the theme “ONE TB: Synergy of Action to Complete TB,” which emphasizes that the target of TB elimination by 2030 cannot be achieved by the health sector alone. Cross-sectoral collaboration involving the government, academics, health workers, and the community, down to the village and sub-district levels, is required.

Through the development of public health-based technology, Kesmas UMS remains committed to providing innovative solutions that have a real impact on the community. With the synergy of various parties and the support of appropriate technology, efforts to achieve a Tuberculosis-free Indonesia by 2030 are expected to be achieved more effectively and sustainably.
