Over 180 New Students Attend UMS Public Health Laboratory Safety Training

Surakarta, September 27, 2025 — The Public Health Study Program at the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS Public Health) held a Laboratory Safety Training on September 27, 2025, attended by over 180 new first-semester students. This activity served as an initial step to introduce students to safety culture and laboratory management before they began their practicums.

The training featured laboratory technicians from each laboratory to provide a first-hand understanding of the facilities and safety procedures. The material covered explanations of the Occupational Health and Safety (K3) Lab, the Epidemiology Lab, the Health Policy Administration (AKK) Lab, the Waste Management Lab, and the Audio Visual Lab. Each technician explained the laboratory’s functions, the equipment used, and the safety standards students must adhere to during practicums.

A general explanation of laboratory management was delivered by Rezania Asyfiradayati, S.K.M., M.P.H., Head of the Public Health Laboratory. This material emphasized the importance of discipline, laboratory ethics, and safe work procedures to support effective and controlled academic activities.

In closing, students received Emergency Response material presented by Ms. Ekan Faozi, S.Kep., M.Kep., a lecturer in Nursing at UMS. This session discussed quick and appropriate actions in emergency situations, including handling fires, injuries, and evacuations.

Through this activity, UMS Public Health affirmed its commitment to creating a safe, standardized, and educational practice environment for all students.
