UMS Public Health Students Win Silver Medal at IYSA 2025 for Functional Food Innovation

Surakarta, November 20, 2025 – Students from the Public Health Study Program at the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) have once again proven their quality by winning a Silver Medal at the 2025 Indonesian Young Scientists Association (IYSA). This achievement was achieved through their functional food product innovation, ESKRIFIR — Kefir Stevia Ice Cream with Dragon Fruit Extract.

The ESKRIFIR innovation was developed as a functional food alternative that offers a fresh taste and health benefits. The combination of kefir, stevia as a natural low-calorie sweetener, and dragon fruit extract makes this product potentially helpful in diabetes prevention by controlling blood sugar and supporting digestive health.

The UMS Public Health team that developed ESKRIFIR consists of:
• Nurul Hidayati
• Fania Yulia Rahma
• Fauzi Septia Ramadani
• Sa’adah Luthfia Fatimah
• Aulya Rahma Santi

Throughout the development process, the team received mentoring from Tanjung Anitasari Indah Kusumaningrum, S.K.M., M.Kes., a lecturer in the UMS Public Health Study Program.

This achievement confirms the UMS Public Health Study Program’s commitment to encouraging public health-based innovation and strengthening the contribution of student research to national health issues. This success also motivates other students to continue creating and competing to produce solutions that benefit the community.

The UMS Public Health Study Program expressed its appreciation for this impressive achievement and hopes that the ESKRIFIR innovation can be further developed towards wider use in the community.
