UMS Team Wins Bronze Medal at World Youth Invention & Innovation Award (WYIIA) 2024

Surakarta, October 2024 – Students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) have once again achieved a proud achievement on the international stage. The UMS team won the Bronze Medal in the World Youth Invention & Innovation Award (WYIIA) 2024 competition, which was attended by more than 500 teams from 16 countries. This competition is a prestigious event that showcases various innovations from young researchers around the world.

The UMS team, consisting of four students from the UMS Nutrition Science Study Program and one student from the UMS Public Health Study Program in the 3rd semester, Afnan Zain Muzakki, managed to steal the attention of the judges through their innovation entitled “Sweet Guard: Healthy Low-Sugar Candy for Preventing Dental Caries in Children with Eco-Friendly Packaging.” This innovative product is a low-sugar candy that is specially formulated to help prevent dental caries in children, while also being packaged in environmentally friendly packaging that supports environmental sustainability.

The success of the UMS Team at WYIIA 2024 is proof that UMS students are able to compete at the international level with solution-oriented and useful innovations. The team leader expressed his gratitude and pride for this achievement, and hopes that their innovation can be further developed to provide wider benefits to the community. The UMS Team’s participation in this competition is also inseparable from the full support provided by the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta, both in terms of academic development and research funding. This achievement further emphasizes UMS’s commitment to producing an innovative generation that is ready to contribute at the global level.

About WYIIA 2024 The World Youth Invention & Innovation Award (WYIIA) is an international innovation competition held annually to provide a forum for young innovators to develop and present their innovative work. This year, WYIIA was attended by more than 500 teams from 16 countries with various innovation categories covering the fields of science, technology, health, and the environment.
