SURAKARTA – Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta (UMS) has set the start of Ramadan 1447 AH on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. This decision follows the decision of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership to use the Single Global Hijri Calendar (KHGT) as the basis for determining the beginning of the Hijri month.
By implementing the KHGT, Muhammadiyah has simultaneously determined the start of Ramadan 1447 AH for Muhammadiyah members worldwide. Thus, the UMS academic community also begins the Ramadan fast on that date.
The KHGT is a Hijri calendar system developed by Muhammadiyah to achieve global Islamic calendar unity. This method uses an astronomical calculation approach with the principle of one day per date worldwide, thus minimizing differences in determining the beginning of the Hijri month.
As the holy month of Ramadan begins, UMS has adjusted its academic schedule for the month. Lectures continue as usual, but with a 40-minute duration per credit unit, with the first lecture starting at 7:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB).
This adjustment is intended to ensure the comfort of students and faculty in carrying out academic activities while observing the Ramadan fast.
UMS also encourages the entire academic community to welcome the holy month of Ramadan by improving the quality of worship, strengthening spiritual values, and strengthening the bonds of brotherhood on campus. Ramadan is expected to be an opportunity to strengthen the spirit of scholarship in line with Islamic values and to increase positive activities that benefit the community.
