SURAKARTA – Students from the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta (UMS) have once again achieved international recognition. The KAMI DAHLAN MUDA team won a Gold Medal and the ICSTEM Special Award (Malaysia International Special Award) at the 2025 International Invention & Design Expo, held from December 3–6, 2025, in Taiwan.
Two students from the UMS Public Health Study Program, Sa’adah Luthfia Fatimah and Ilma Khoirunissa, actively contributed to the cross-disciplinary team.
The team’s innovation was titled “MomSync: An Integrated Smartwatch-Based Maternal Health System for Pre-eclampsia Prevention, Medication Recommendations, Hospital Recommendations, Stunting Education, and Supporting Equitable Access to Healthcare Services.”
MomSync is a smartwatch-based maternal health system designed to improve maternal safety through real-time health monitoring, early risk detection, and integrated education. This wearable device allows mothers to monitor vital indicators such as blood pressure, oxygen levels, and stress levels, allowing for faster identification of potential risks of preeclampsia.
In addition to monitoring features, MomSync also provides treatment recommendations, referrals to nearby health facilities, and easy-to-understand stunting prevention education. This innovation aims to support equitable access to healthcare services, especially for mothers in areas with limited medical facilities.
The participation of two UMS Public Health students in this team demonstrates the tangible contribution of public health science to the development of technology-based innovations. Interdisciplinary collaboration is a key strength in providing comprehensive solutions to maternal health issues.
This achievement also underscores UMS Public Health’s commitment to encouraging students to actively innovate, collaborate, and contribute internationally through solutions that impact the wider community.
