GEMPHA Public Health UMS Attends “We Speak Up Because We Matter” Event with Over 50 Social Organizations

Surakarta, August 2, 2025 – The GEMPHA (HIV/AIDS Student Movement) Study Group from the Public Health Study Program at the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta (Kesmas UMS) attended the “We Speak Up Because We Matter” event organized by the Indonesian Family Planning Association (PKBI) of Central Java. The event took place in Surakarta and was attended by over 50 social organizations from various regions.

This event served as a platform for cross-organizational consolidation focusing on social issues, reproductive health, and the protection of vulnerable groups. GEMPHA Kesmas UMS represented students active in HIV/AIDS education and sexual health advocacy on campus and in the community.

Through this participation, GEMPHA strengthened its commitment to building collaborative networks and expanding the reach of student-based social movements. The event’s agenda included interactive discussions, mapping priority issues, and strengthening organizational capacity to mainstream the voices of youth.

“We believe that students have a crucial role in speaking out on crucial issues like HIV/AIDS. This activity serves as both a learning space and a platform for expression,” said a GEMPHA representative at the forum.

Going forward, GEMPHA Kesmas UMS is committed to continuing to actively contribute to social and public health movements, as well as strengthening synergies with various parties to create a more inclusive, healthy, and empowered society.
