Surakarta, April 23, 2025 — Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta (UMS) officially inaugurated Prof. Dr. Harun Joko Prayitno, M.Hum. as the new Rector for the 2025–2029 term on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. This inauguration is an important milestone in the leadership relay of the Muhammadiyah flagship campus.
Prof. Harun Joko Prayitno was previously known as an experienced academic and leader in the Muhammadiyah higher education environment. In his remarks, Prof. Harun emphasized his commitment to continuing UMS’ vision as a world-class university based on progressive Islamic values.
“We will strengthen the synergy of the tridharma of higher education with the spirit of innovation and global usefulness, without leaving behind the roots of Islam and Muhammadiyah,” he said after the inauguration.
The highest gratitude and appreciation are also conveyed to Prof. Dr. Sofyan Anif, M.Sc., who has completed his term as UMS Chancellor for two terms (2017–2025). Under his leadership, UMS has experienced significant growth in various aspects, including increasing study program accreditation, expanding international cooperation, developing infrastructure, and gaining national and global recognition in the fields of education, research, and community service.
Prof. Sofyan Anif’s dedication for eight years is considered to have positioned UMS as one of the best private universities in Indonesia. His leadership is a strong foundation for the sustainability of UMS’s transformation in the future.
With the spirit of renewal and sustainability, the leadership baton is now officially in the hands of Prof. Harun Joko Prayitno. The UMS academic community welcomes with optimism to move together towards a brighter future.
