Euphoria for the 60th UMS Anniversary “UMS for the Nation”

The series of 60th Anniversary of Muhammadiyah Surakarta University was continued with Healthy Walk and Bazaar activities. The activity which took place on Sunday (28/10), started with the opening and starting from the East of the Sudalmiyah Rais Mosque UMS. Starting at 06.00 WIB in the morning, with the route starting from the Sudalmiyah Rais Mosque, then around the Makutha Monument Solo, UMS Edupark until it was finished at the UMS Sports Building (GOR). This healthy walk, which is routinely held every year, this time was attended by all UMS academics, Muhammadiyah leaders throughout Solo, UMS partners and the general public around the UMS campus.

UMS Chancellor Dr. Sofyan Anif M.Si. explained the theme of the UMS Anniversary this time, namely ‘UMS for the Country’ in line with the theme of the 106th Muhammadiyah Anniversary, namely ‘Ta’awun for the Country’. Ta’awun itself means the activity of helping each other in goodness. “The theme of this year’s anniversary is UMS for the Country, this is a means for UMS since its establishment until UMS is more advanced, developing and providing more and more useful contributions to the community,” explained the Chancellor of UMS when interviewed.

The Chancellor of UMS mentioned that several examples of UMS’ contribution to the country were its involvement in handling natural disasters in Lombok and Palu some time ago, even today there are still several volunteers who are in disaster locations carrying out their volunteer duties. To strengthen the role of UMS in humanitarian missions, during this activity, the assistance of a rescue operation car unit was also carried out from Bank Jateng Syariah to UMS. The symbolic handover of the rescue car was received by the UMS Chancellor from the Bank Jateng Syariah directly in front of the participants for the healthy walk. The management of the car will be carried out by the Zakat Infaq and Shadaqoh Muhammadiyah Institute (Lazismu UMS).

The healthy walk and bazaar this time were also accompanied by musical entertainment from My Band UMS. The interesting thing about My Band UMS is that one of the band’s personnel is the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Information Systems, namely Ir. Sarjito, M.T, Ph.D as guitarist. The event was also interspersed with the announcement of the winners of the competitions for Lecturers and Employees of UMS which had been held previously. Furthermore, the event that was highly anticipated by the participants of the healthy walk was the prize draw. The prizes that were distributed for free were 2 (two) motorcycles, 60 bicycles, washing machines, televisions, refrigerators, household appliances and dozens of other attractive prizes.

The atmosphere of the event became more interesting with the availability of bazaar stands selling food products, beverages, household appliances, plantations, massage services from UMS physiotherapy and many other products. The bazaar was filled with businesses owned by UMS lecturers, employees and students. In addition, from Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) owned by the general public. UMS also provides shopping vouchers worth Rp. 40.000,- per person and can be spent at the stand provided by the committee.

Meanwhile, the General Chair of the UMS IMM Korkom, Abdul Afif Amrulloh, hoped that UMS should be more advanced, beneficial to the community and be the frontline in producing Muhammadiyah and Nation cadres. “Keder Muhammadiyah and the nation printed by UMS must have intellectual, religiosity and human character,” hoped the General Chair of the UMS IMM Korkom.
