The history of the establishment of KEDAI

BIMKAR (Character Guidance)

Before the name KEDAI, which is now often discussed in the scope of the public health study program, the forerunner to the formation of KEDAI began with the routine introduction and orientation of students in the public health study program called BIMKAR (Character Guidance). BIMKAR was formed in 2013. Although the theme is “student orientation”, BIMKAR is not a place for hazing from senior to junior level. BIMKAR was initiated by several seniors who were based on the caring and empathy of seniors related to the lack of confidence in new students who were UMS public health students. It is from this lack of confidence that sometimes new students are reluctant to find out what public health is and what can be obtained when becoming a public health graduate. Therefore, activities at BIMKAR are more focused on introducing the Public Health study program, starting from what public health is, the discussion in public health covers anything, to what public health work prospects cover. New students are also invited to become organizers so that in the BIMKAR agenda, seniors who are members of it provide a lot of information related to open recruitment from HMP Public Health to University UKM.

From these introductions to public health, it is hoped that new students can understand public health as well as possible and can feel at home as a big family of public health at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta. Besides that, BIMKAR also makes students more active in participating in organizations so that students are not only active in the academic field but also proficient in campus organization and public speaking.

SC (Study Club)

In the following year (2014) BIMKAR transformed into SC (Study Club) where SC has a focus on writing activities, especially in the field of Scientific Writing. The target of SC is still the same as BIMKAR, namely new students of Public Health. This is motivated by the lack of student contributions in the field of writing which is reflected in the small number of students participating in competitions in the KTI field. In addition, SC also has a routine agenda that is included in the work program, namely discussions and brainstorming related to “current” health information and issues to new students with the aim of introducing a culture of discussion between students as well as self-actualization of public health issues so that they enrich themselves with health insights.

KEDAI (Fun Discussion Group)

The next period (2015) the Study Club changed its name to KEDAI (Fun Discussion Group). KEDAI has a focus on writing in the field of writing, namely PKM, especially PKM-GT (Written Ideas), with the target of all new Public Health students. The selection of the PKM discussion was because very few students of the Public Health Study Program submitted PKM proposals, both PKM 5 fields and PKM-GT and PKM-AI. The selection of PKM-GT as the focus of discussion in KEDAI itself is due to the limited number of KEDAI human resources and the work of PKM-GT which only focuses on creative thinking and idea innovation from students and does not require research or go directly to the community, so it is very suitable to be applied to the program. KEDAI with limited human resources and a very large number of targets. For the next period KEDAI has not changed its name again until now and the focus of the discussion is still the same, namely making PKM-GT proposals because in the last period KEDAI there were still many achievement targets that had not been realized so it was felt necessary to realize these targets in this period.
