Background

HIV/AIDS is an infectious disease that is showing an increase. Based on data from the Ministry of Health, cumulative HIV/AIDS cases from 1987 to December 2013 at the national level were 127,427 HIV cases, while AIDS was 52,348 cases. This condition places Central Java Province at 6th (sixth) nationally, with a total number of cases from 1993 to December 2013 as many as 8,234 cases with details of 4,427 HIV cases, 3,852 AIDS cases, and 899 deaths. Based on data from the Surakarta AIDS Commission (KPA) up to March 2016, there were 1,738 HIV/AIDS cases covering the areas of Solo, Sragen, Karanganyar, Boyolali, Klaten, Wonogiri, and Sukoharjo. According to data from the NGO Mitra Peer in Sukoharjo, there were 267 cases of HIV/AIDS. This figure will increase if prevention efforts are not immediately carried out, so it is necessary to provide knowledge to the public about HIV/AIDS so that HIV/AIDS sufferers can decrease.

This figure will continue to grow if preventive measures are not taken immediately. Public stigma has been an important thing in this prevention effort. So far, people think that people with HIV/AIDS should be shunned and isolated because they are afraid of being infected, so many people with HIV/AIDS are discriminated against from the community. For this reason, it is necessary to provide knowledge to the public about HIV/AIDS to reduce stigma and discrimination against PLWHA. To answer this question, the GEMPHA (Student Movement Concerned for HIV/AIDS) was formed with the aim that students, especially public health students, were more concerned about the diseases caused by the HIV virus so that they could suppress the growth of HIV/AIDS in Surakarta. In addition, the movement carried out by students is also expected to reduce the stigma and discrimination received by OHDA (People With HIV/AIDS) and OHIDA (People Living with HIV/AIDS) so that people who have been infected with the HIV/AIDS virus can live and carry out their activities. like normal people.
