Fire Safety Training for Students Specializing in Occupational Safety and Health 2024

Students specializing in Occupational Safety and Health (K3) from the Public Health Study Program, Faculty of Health Sciences (FIK) Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta (UMS) took part in fire safety training with the Sukoharjo Regency Fire Department. The fire safety was carried out on May 21 2024 and was accompanied by Mr. Rayyan Hanugrah, S.Kom. as Audio Visual Laboratory Assistant, Mrs. Widya Kusuma Muslim, S.Tr.Kes. as Waste Processing Laboratory Assistant and Mrs. Dian Islami, SKM as K3 Laboratory Assistant. This activity aims to increase students’ knowledge and skills in dealing with fire emergency situations, both in the work environment and in the community.

The training begins with a theory session explaining various fire extinguishing techniques, from light fires to large fires. Students gain an in-depth understanding of the types of fire, causes of fire, and preventive steps that can be taken to avoid fires.

After the theory session, students continue with field practice. They were guided directly by the Sukoharjo Regency Fire Department team in extinguishing light fires. In this session, students were introduced to various fire extinguishing tools such as light fire extinguishers (APAR), wet cloth and water. They are given the opportunity to practice using these tools directly, so they can understand how they work and the effectiveness of each tool in real fire situations.

This training not only provides theoretical knowledge, but also practical experience which is very valuable for students. By participating in this training, it is hoped that students of the Public Health Study Program at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta will be able to become individuals who are more prepared and alert in dealing with emergencies, and can play an active role in efforts to prevent and control fires in their surrounding environment.
