The Public Health Study Program of the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta has held an expert lecture with the theme “Saving Lives at Birth in Indonesia” on January 19, 2019 at the Postgraduate Building of the Faculty of Psychology UMS as an effort to increase health knowledge, especially MCH for public health students. The expert lecture presented speakers from Macquarie University, namely Salahudin Muhidin, PhD. The expert lecture was also attended by Dr. Mutalazimah, S.KM, M.Kes as the Dean of FIK UMS who gave a speech that the theme of the expert lecture was very in line with the health program in Indonesia, namely PIS-PK, including Maternal and Child Health (KIA) included in the indicators of a healthy family. The provision of material in expert lectures has the hope that public health students can carry out health efforts in the MCH field.
Bpk Salahudin Muhidin, PhD revealed that the key to the MCH problem in Indonesia is preparation for birth and after birth. His explanation was more focused on the MCH problem in NTT. In general, MCH problems include 3 delays, namely delay in recognizing the problem, delay in reaching a health facility, and delay in receiving adequate/appropriate care. The problem with MCH in NTT is that births are still high at home, so to overcome this problem, a MCH revolution program was implemented which includes strengthening of saving live at birth, and providing health services to mothers. After the MCH revolution program in NTT, especially after the regulations in each district regarding MCH, there was an increase in births in health services but the conditions were not the same for each region. Therefore, it is necessary to know the success of the MCH revolution program through research on the relation of demand sites (health promotion, family planning, income generation, community advocacy) and supply sites related to the MCH revolution (health services).
