The University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta officially received Accreditation A from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN PT) on Saturday, July 22, 2017. Located in the Siti Walidah UMS Main building on the 7th floor, the handover of the Decree from the Director General of Higher Education to the Chancellor of UMS went solemnly and smoothly.
The event which took place in conjunction with a series of Coordination Meetings for Private Higher Education Leaders & Leaders of the Private Higher Education Organizing Agency of Kopertis VI Rayon II 2017, was attended by Prof. Aris Junaidi, PhD as Director of Quality Assurance for Research and Technology, Dr. Sofyan Anif, M.Si as the Chancellor of UMS, Drs. H. A. Dahlan Rais, M.Hum as Chairman of the Central Executive of Muhammadiyah, Prof. Dr. Dwi Yuwono Puji Sugiharto, M.Pd, Kons as the Coordinator of Kopertis VI, and several other university officials.
On this occasion the Chancellor of UMS, Dr. Sofyan Anif, M.Si said that UMS as a Private Universities (PTS) has a strong commitment to become a university that is able to compete and is not inferior in quality to State Universities (PTN) in Indonesia.
“This year, Muhammadiyah University has succeeded in being ranked as the 8th best university in Indonesia, and in the 2017/2018 academic year it has recorded 6,500 registered new student candidates. This has shown the existence of UMS, as well as our strong commitment to providing quality educational services,” said Dr Sofyan Anif, M.Si in his speech.
Next Dr. Sofyan Anif, M.Si added that there is a need for awareness and design of a new curriculum in private universities, especially for Kopertis VI rayon II so that they are not only focused on quality at the national level but are oriented towards standardization at the international level.
In line with the Chancellor of UMS, Prof. Aris Junaidi, PhD also said that the existence of a strong commitment to make private universities compete and even improve their quality better than state universities will have a positive impact on the development of the world of education in Indonesia.
As a closing remark, Prof. Aris Junaidi, PhD congratulated UMS for having received A accreditation. “Currently, 55 universities in Indonesia have been accredited A, but today UMS has recorded new data with a total of 56 universities accredited A. Congratulations to Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta,” he said at the end of the remarks of the coordination meeting.
After getting an A accreditation, in the future UMS will improve the quality both in terms of academics and services so that this proud achievement will always be maintained in the future. (Ahmad)
